AN ANALYSIS ON STRATEGY OF TEACHING ENGLISH AT ECP (ENGLISH CONVERSATON PROGRAM) IN SMP YIMI FULL DAY SCHOOL GRESIK

This study described about the strategy in teaching English at ECP (English Conversation Program) at SMP Yimi Full Day School Gresik. The school are observed because the school is one of favorite school in Gresik and has the ECP (English Conversation Program) class. In ECP (English Conversation Program) the teacher taught how to master the English.
This study also described the strategy that used to teach the students in ECP (English Conversation Program) at SMP Yimi Full Day school Gresik. The study was done on 28th January2014 up to 21th February 2014. In this study the researcher used descriptive qualitative. In this study the researcher used observation and interview guide to collect the data.
After analyzing the data, it was found that teacher used some strategies to teach the students at ECP (English Conversation Program), but the teacher always used drilling strategies as the strategies to teach the students at ECP (English Conversation Program) class. The first strategies teacher used to teach the students at ECP (English Conversation Program) is audio lingual method. Teacher drilling words and sentences to the students used audio lingual method. Teacher showed the video about the material that teacher teach to the students, teacher ask to the students to read the words and sentence all the time. It is make the students did not feel bored and also make the students easy to understand about the material, and the last teacher used drilling pattern. Drilling pattern it is to help the students easy to remember sixteen tenses. So, the students can easy to answer the question in examination.
The research finding of this research is the teacher always used drilling strategies to teach the students at ECP (English Conversation Program). The strategies used to make students easy to memorize and understand about the material that teacher teach to them. Based on this research, the researcher gives some suggestions. The first is for the English teacher. English teacher should develope the strategies when teaching English at classroom. Second is for the students. The students are also expected to pay attention and concentration in learning English to build their ability of speaking skill. Third is for the researcher. This study gave much knowledge for the researcher, so the researcher can learn this study when the researcher teaches the students. The fourth is for the other school. The researcher hopes English teacher in other school can learn about this study.
