Linguistics may be defined as study of language. This includes the study translation. Translation has some kinds such as: very literal, literal, modified literal, inconsistent mixture, near idiomatic, idiomatic, undualy fee, full translation, partial translation, total translation, restricted translation, rank bound, unbounded translation, pragmatic translation, aesthetic poetic translation, ethnographic translation, and linguistic translation. Learners must learn the bits of grammatical and vocabulary, this is very important things to do because they can translate sentence well and know the word meaning.

This research uses descriptive research design, because it is aimed to find out the translation formed by fourth semester of English Department at Muhammadiyah University of Gresik. In order to be useful data, the writer gives the syntactic signal. In addition, the subject of this study is taken from student translation of fourth semester. This study is concentrated on the analyzing the types of translation and translation procedure used in student translation.

The total of studentsí answers are 300 answers, they are gotten from amount of students giving answers of multiple to amount of the question. The result of this study shows that the inconsistent mixture is the highest number; it is proved by their translation in which grammatical construction and lexical meaning are different. As many 13 studentsí answers did not answer and 17 studentsí answers did not complete the answers, 45 studentí answers used literal translation, 180 studentí answers used inconsistent mixture, 11 studentí answers used near idiomatic, and then only 6 studentí answers used idiomatic and 18 students used modified translation. In addition, from two procedures used, student used structural and semantic procedure. The structural procedures used are subtraction, addition, and transportation procedure. The majority of the structural used is subtraction because they deleted the word and also showed the data result, 11 students, answers used subtraction procedures, 5 studentsí answers used addition procedures, and 4 studentsí answers used transportation and 3 studentsí answers used synonym procedure. Whereas from two procedures used, the student used structural and semantic procedure. Most of the student used structural procedure. The structural procedure used is subtraction. 11 studentsí answers used subtraction because they deleted the word, whereas as many 4 transportation procedures were used by student in their translation. Then as many as 5 addition procedures were used by students in their translation. The last, 3 synonym procedures were used in their translation. From the explanation above, the writer can conclude that most of the students used inconsistent mixture translation and subtraction procedure. The writer suggests to the translator when translating the word or sentence we do not only focus in word meaning but also think another context.
