English is the second language in Indonesia country, English has influences in globalization competition that is fully signed by knowledge and technology which uses English as one of media of communication. Our government effort English language is obligated to learn from Elementary school to Senior high school. Reading is one of important skills that must be mastered by the student. In this thesis the writer described the Readability level of Reading Text of English Textbook Entitled New Concept English Developing Competencies in English use for SMP Published by ARMICO

The writer uses descriptive analysis for this theory. The subject of this research is reading text found in this book. Based on the finding, from twelve texts that have been measured by the writer only two texts that is readable text. They are text 3 with a title “friends once again” and text 7 with the title “our body”. And the other texts are text 1st, 2nd, 5th, 9th, 10th, 12th are too easy text for Junior high school, those text are dedicated to 5th and 6th of Elementary school. Texts 4th, 6th, 8th, 11th are difficult text for Junior high school, they are dedicated for High school to collage.

The readability level of reading text in the English textbook entitled New Concept English Developing Competencies in English used for SMP Published by ARMICO as described as follow; from twelve texts in each chapter the writer described the readability level found that from each text just text 3 with the title “Friend Once again” and text 7 with the title “Our Body” are readable texts and the other texts are 1st, 2nd, 5th, 9th, 10th, 12th are too easy text for Junior high school, those are dedicated to 5th and 6th of Elementary school. And texts 4th, 6th, 8th, 11th are too difficult texts for Junior high school, they are dedicated for Senior High School to some collage.

So from this analysis the writer hope that the publisher and the English textbook writer will uses the readability formula as the guidance to found the reading text are readable for student in each level. Finally, especially for the English teacher if there unreadable text they can change the difficult words with the synonymous words.
