Since many years ago, English has been considered as the first foreign language in Indonesia, in that the Indonesian students are required to learn English from Elementary school. They should study hard to get good achievement. For succeeding the English learning tasks, students need to be aware of the strategy that can lead them to the success because the learning strategy is one of the important things in studentsí learning process. There are some learning strategies which have been classified by some experts into six learning strategies; memory strategy, cognitive strategy, compensation strategy, metacognitive strategy, affective strategy, social strategy. So that, the researcher decided to investigate the learner English learning strategy. The subject of this study was a good young learner at SDN Kedanyang Gresik who had a uniqueness. That was from her motivation. Although she was not from a rich family, she had high motivation to learn. She did not take any English course but she was very good in English.
The findings of this study was described and classified into two parts based on the research questions. This present study is intended to know the kinds of learning strategies used by a good or successful young learner at SDN Kedanyang, and to find out the studentís way in learning English at school and home environment.
Based on the result of the data analysis, the researcher found that the subject used five strategies to support and improve her learning process especially in learning English. Those strategies are; memory strategies, cognitive strategies, compensation strategies, affective strategies and social strategies. Only metacognitive strategy which she did not use because she felt more enjoyable and comfortable to use those five learning strategies. She used the strategies not only at school environment but also at home environment. The special thing was also found in this study. The subject had her own strategy which is rarely used by young learners even adult learners to learn oral grammar. She used her fingers to solve her weakness in oral grammar.
